Signs You Will See at Lake Hills

All churches have signs. Often they are hidden, like “your skin is the wrong color” or “we are only interested in your money” or “don’t worry about reading the Bible...we’ll tell you what it says.” These types of signs need to come down in churches wherever they exist. God must absolutely hate it when “religion” gets in the way of people having a relationship with Him. At Lake Hills, we have signs, too, and they are right out in the open.

COME AS YOU ARE a sign with two meanings. First, it means that people who come to Lake Hills don’t have to worry about whether the clothes they wear are “good enough.” God is much more interested in the inside of a person than the outside. But the meaning of “Come As You Are” is much deeper than just the outside...it extends to the inside, as well. Some people think that their lives are so messed up they’re just not good enough to come. Well, we encourage people to come just as they are...with all their doubts, questions, failures, and sins. God doesn’t require that we “get it all together” before we come to Him, and the reality is that none of us will ever be good enough...that’s why Jesus took our brokenness upon Himself.

 

Slow...Children At Play! 
Research shows that 90% of the people who accept Christ do so before they reach 20 years of age. That’s why we are committed to having effective Children’s and Student Ministry environments. One of the few times in the Bible that Jesus got frustrated was when His disciples tried to keep the kids away from Him. (Luke 18:16) Jesus showed us how important children are. But the sign “Children at Play” also has another meaning. In Matthew 18, Jesus said, "...unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Certainly this means that we are to have the faith and trust of a child, but could it also mean that we should have the joy of a child? We think so...and that’s why “fun” is a priority at Lake Hills!

 

You Matter to God! 
This sign doesn’t just mean that all people matter to God...it means that YOU matter to God. You are special and God wants to have a relationship with YOU. Ephesians 3:17-19 says, “And I pray that you...may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” The greatest discovery you can ever make is to understand that He will never abandon or reject you because you are the greatest treasure to Him. He knows you by name and He loves you completely.

 

Grace Happens! 
In golf when you mess up your tee shot, you get a mulligan, which simply means you get a second chance. That’s what’s so beautiful about the grace of God. We always get a “do-over” when we mess up. And we’re all going to mess up ~ that’s a given. That doesn’t mean we get to say, “I’ll just live my life the way I want and God will forgive me.” When you get a mulligan in golf it’s because you want to make a better shot. If we love God, we want to do better when we make bad choices. And for His part, God promises to always forgive. “...As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12
